Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Busy day at The Square and Compass Charley Newman bought the licence for £14 off Strong's in 1907 and ever since The Square and Compass has been a popular pub and still run by same family. The quarrymen were the main customers and called it "The Bank" as when money was short they used to exchange stone, sometimes sculptured, for beer and Charley used to sell the stone and endeavoured to make a profit. A book has been written about the pub's history and the interesting people who have enjoyed their time there.
