Known as Abate Molina, he was a Spanish-Chilean priest, naturalist, linguist, botanist, professor, geographer and chronicler. The bust is in the National Historical Museum.

Español: El abate Molina, destacado intelectual chileno del siglo XVIII, desarrolló gran parte de su obra científica en Bolonia, Italia, donde se radicó en 1767 luego de la expulsión de los jesuitas del territorio chileno. Nacido en la hacienda Huaraculén, en Villa Alegre, Linares, el 24 de junio de 1740, desde temprana edad mostró un gran interés por el estudio de la naturaleza. A los quince años ingresó a la Orden Jesuita donde adquirió una sólida preparación científica, filosófica y humanística. Sus estudios superiores sumaron catorce años de humanidades clásicas: filosofía, ciencias, magisterio y teología. Llegó a dominar cinco idiomas: griego, latín, italiano, francés y castellano. Sin duda, el exilio, marcó para siempre su vida. El busto se encuentra en el Museo Histórico Nacional.
English: Abate Molina, a prominent Chilean intellectual of the 18th century, developed a large part of his scientific work in Bologna, Italy, where he settled in 1767 after the expulsion of the Jesuits from Chilean territory. Born in the Huaraculén hacienda, in Villa Alegre, Linares, on June 24, 1740, from an early age he showed great interest in the study of nature. At the age of fifteen he entered the Jesuit Order where he acquired a solid scientific, philosophical and humanistic training. His higher studies added fourteen years of classical humanities: philosophy, science, teaching and theology. He was fluent in five languages: Greek, Latin, Italian, French and Spanish. Undoubtedly, exile marked his life forever. The bust is in the National Historical Museum.
