Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Bust of Beethoven The front of the Ewing Galleries is in Sauchiehall Street, and is decorated with several allegorical figures.

The building, which was originally a piano and organ warehouse, has a back entrance at 341 Renfrew Street; in this less prominent and rather shaded location, a large bust of Beethoven is set on the pediment [for more information, see, for example, "Sculpture in Glasgow – an illustrated handbook" by Ray McKenzie].

In recent times, the building was been been put to other uses, and it has gone through many changes of name: The Velvet Rooms, Blanket, Guru, and others. At an earlier period, it housed a cinema.
