Description

WATCHING THE BATHERS OCEAN, GROVE, N.J.

Date: Pre-1907 (undivided back) Source Type: Postcard Publisher, Printer, Photographer: Arthur Livington (#895) Postmark: June 28, 1912, Deary, Idaho Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: The following message is written on the reverse of this postcard --

"6/28/12 Dear Sir.-- most of the share holders would like to work first there assessments. If you want too, you can haul Telephone poles towards Kendrick from here, or you can Pay in cash, the assessment. Just as you like. Yours Truly R. E. Darr "Sec""

Vanevrie Aanderson Randall, recipient of this postcard, owned 520 acres of mixed timberland and farmland in Section 35, Township 39 North, Range 2 West Boise Meridian in Latah County, Idaho, with his wife Frances; this region is more commonly referred to as Texas Ridge. The Potlatch River and its associated canyon land cut across the southeast portion of Randall's property and would have consisted of a substantial volume of mature timber in the early 1900s.

Reinhold Ernest Darr was the sender of this postcard.

Given the content of the message, it is believed that Mr. Randall was possibly a shareholder in the Potlatch Telephone Company. This company was headquartered in Kendrick, Latah County, Idaho. Randall's property was located nearly equidistant between Kendrick and Deary, Latah County, Idaho. It appears that to pay for his shares in this company, he could deliver telephone poles to Kendrick or pay cash.

V. A. Randall was born February 12, 1861, at Clinton County, Iowa, and died on August 5, 1944, at Lewiston, Nez Perce County, Idaho, and was buried in Vineland Cemetery located in Clarkston, Asotin County, Washington.

R. E. Darr was born October 16, 1879, in Germany, and died December 26, 1945, at Moscow, Latah County, Idaho. Darr was buried at the Elwood Cemetery located on Texas Ridge.
