MAMMOTH VICTORIA ONIONS. We now offer exclusively the Best American=Grown Seed. WHITE VICTORIA ONION. As shown in the illustration, this is a very handsome globular onion ; skin silver- white, flesh juicy, sweet, and milky-white. It delights in frequent hoeings of the soil, and watering in dry weather. Mr. T. Greiner, the well-known horticultural writer, in his book, New Onion Culture, on pages 29 and 30, writes as follows:— "For the white sort, however, I prefer the new White Victoria to any other I am acquainted with. Mr. A. I. Root writes me as follows: 'A handsomer onion (than the Prize-Taker), though not quite so large, is the White Victoria. It has, during the past spring and summer, made a host of friends in our vicinity, and it was really enjoyable to take a lot of these white heauties into almost any crowd, and see them stare and wonder to behold such large, handsome, white onions, long before anybody thought of it being time for onions of such size.' Prof. Green also writes me that he considers the White Victoria superior to any other white sort tested at the station grounds. So, if you adhere to the old Onion culture, plant the White Globe; but if you are wise and adopt the new, plant quite largely of White Victoria." Per pkt. io cts.; oz. 20 cts.; ) lb. 60 cts.; per lb. $2.00, postpaid. RED VICTORIA ONION. Of handsome globe shape, sometimes weighing from two and a half to four and a half pounds each, under good cultivation, the first year from seed. Skin very dark, almost blood-red in color ; flesh white or very light rose-colored ; flavor very mild and sweet. It grows best in loamy, heavy soil, which may even be stony and must be well worked. If properly cultivated, this variety, uniformly large in size, produces an enormous crop. Per pkt. 16 cts.; oz. 15 cts.; \ lb. 50 cts.; per lb. $1.50, postpaid. C A I ITIOM ^ 0 wo,'l(l call particular attention to the fact that the seed offered bv us again this season, 1 l\J(y, of both RED and WH1TE VICTORIA ONIONS, is all American grown and true to name. Since first introducing these Onions, prior to 1894, we imported the seed direct from the original growers in Southern Italy (whose gardens we have several times visited), but we regret (as announced last year) that the seed sent to us in the autumn of 189:? >ras not true to name. Therefore we were forced to discontinue the sale of imported seed, and now offer exclusively American=Grown seed. Unfortunately, the Italians do not seem to realize the importance of purify in needs, but we had confidence that we could rely upon the original growers maintaining, by careful selection, the true tvpe of these Victoria Onions. W. ATLEE BURPEE & CO. <jbl C\C\ C\C\ For the Largest Onions raised this season, of either Victoria, Gigantic Gibraltar, or Prize- *r1 v v• ^ ^ Taker. A circular with full particulars will be sent with the order for seed, if asked for.
