THE PRIZE=TAKER ONION. The American-Grown Prize-Taker Onion grows uniform in shape, of a nearly perfect globe, as shown in the illustration, with thin skin of bright straw color ; it is of immense size, measuring from twelve to eighteen inches in circumference, while under special cultivation specimen bulbs have been raised to weigh from four to five and a half pounds each. It ripens up hard and fine, and presents the handsomest possible appearance ; the flesh is pure white, flue grained, mild and delicate in flavor. Per pkt. 10 cts.; per oz. 20 cts.; 2 ozs. 30 cts.; per ; lb. 50 cts.; per lb. $1.75, postpaid. By express, not prepaid, per lb. $1.65 ; 5 lbs. or more at $1.50 per lb. THE PRIZE=TAKERS OF l805. In order to have thorough comparative *^ tests of the Prize-Taker and new Gibraltar Onions we offered last year a series of 21 prizes amounting to $260.00 for the best specimens of each variety. The competition, as will be seen from the awards, was widely conducted and the Prize-Taker retained first place for size, the largest specimen weighing 5.) pounds, exactly one pound more than the heaviest Gibraltar. (See page 28.) The First Prize of $35.00 was awarded to Mr. W. J. Parker, Woodland, N. C, for a fine globular onion weighing SXA POUNDS, or 88 ounces. The Second Prize of $20.00 to W. A. Skarpnack, Alma, Neb., weight 50 ounces. Third Prize of $15.00 to Mr. Abel Steele, Ferguson, Ontario, Canada, weight 44 ounces. Fourth Prize of $10.00 to MRS. Jessie W. Thornton, Oak Creek, Oregon, weight 40>* ounces. Filth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Prizes, respectively, of $5.00 each, to Joseph Beck. New Bridge, Ore- gon, weight 40 ounces ; Mrs. L. A. Lkwis, Cozad, Neb., weight 32 ounces ; Rout. Stibbard, Eglinton, Ontario, Canada, weight 32 ounces ; Geo. B. Huston, Arro3ro Grande, Chi., weight 29 ounces ; Mrs. A. J. Hathaway, Montalvo, Cal., weight 28 ounces, and Mr. G. M. ChaffIn, Phillipston, Mass., weight 2G ounces. The prize specimens, exhibited at our office side by side with the Netv Gigantic Gibraltar Onions, called forth the highest commendatio'n.
