Opyw SHT IBI7 By.W.ATLBE '^^TURAL SIZE E.^ Mapledale Prolific Pop Corn This remarkable variety originated -w-ith Prof. E. L. Wetherell, of Davenport., Iowa, who stated: " I se- lected on my Mapledale fruit farm, this year, ten stalks with one hundred and twenty-one (121) ears or an aver- age of twelve ears to the stalk, one stalk having nineteen ears." Besides its very prolific character, we are much pleased with the corn in other respects. The stalks grow six feet high, and the ears are all large in size, with grains nearly clear white in color. An average ear measured six and a half inches long and contained 585 perfect kernels, while many ears reached eight inches in length. It pops pure paper-white, of fine quality. In competition for the prizes offered, Mr. A. J. Bates, Cawker City, Kansas, sent us a grand stalk bearing eighteen ears : Abram Spickerma2?, Bed Creek, Wayne Co., X. Y., won second prize, with a stalk bear- ing'fifteen ears ; and Mrs. George Miess, Brooklyn Station, Ontario, Canada, won third prize, also with fif- teen ears on a stalk. The above count includes the main stalk only, and all the above, together with other stalks sent by our customers, which, including suckers, bore nineteen and twenty ears from one grain planted, were exhibited at our warehouse. Never before have we known so remarkably prolific a corn. We offer the pure seed at lo cts. per package, or three packages for 25 cts.; per pint 25 cts.; per quart 45 cts., postpaid. QUEEN'S GOLDEN POP CORN, This handsome new Pop Corn was sent to us by a gar- dener in Indiana, who wrote: " It is so far ahead of all others that I have seen or tried, as to be beyond compari- son in every respect, in yield, handsome appearance, in sturdy growth,in size and in color when popped. Above aU is its exceeding tenderness when popped, together with its delicious and delicate taste." After having grown this variety extensively for eight years, we can endorse all that Mr. Queen has said in its praise. The stalks grow six feet high, and the large ears are produced in abund- ance. Its quality and handsome appearance when popped are very noticeable. It pops per- fectly white, and a single kernel wiU expand to a diam- eter of nearly one inch. Ears 10 cts. each. Shelled, 10 cts. per pkt.; 25 cts. per pint; 45 cts. per quart. SILVER LACE POP CORN. It suckers so that a single kernel will produce three to four stalks, making it an exceedingly productive variety; for this reason not more than two kernels should be allowed to grow in a hill. The ears are very handsome, five to six inches in length, with sixteen rows well filled out to the end with smooth, round, metallic white grains. It differs from the old rice pop corn in the shape of the kernels, greater productiveness, its superior tenderness when parched, and its beautiful transparency, thus well meriting its name—Silver Lace. Price of ears 10 cts. each, or 4 for 25 cts., postpaid. Shelled 10 cts. per pkt.; 20 cts. per pint; 40 cts. per quart.
