Summary

[edit]
Description
English: According to Haringey's then Urban Development Plan, the building was originally:

"a sewage pumping Station, 1885 onwards with   elaborate “Queen Anne style” façade dated 1897   and cast iron cor(?) cart shed to cobbled yard.   Converted to play club in 1983." (See below)

Hmm, from the front it does looks a bit like a giant toilet plunger.

Visit of Alison McGovern

Zena and I were shopping in Wood Green and read a flyer inviting people to come to the Burghley Road Centre for a visit by Alison McGovern, who served as an MP in Labour's education team. She and Meg Hillier were helping the campaign of the excellent Catherine West who was then standing for election as Member of Parliament for Hornsey Wood Green constituency.

Zena went along and chatted to Alison about funding for childcare provision. (I stayed outside and looked after our bags.)

Two former Haringey councillors Claire Kober and Ann Waters were also present. I wondered whether or not they suggested that, after the election, Alison McGovern should also visit some of Haringey Council's own excellent childcare provision . (Burghley Road Centre was then run by volunteers.) ____________________________________
