| Description |
Burg Hornberg looked like a real fairy tale castle the first time I saw it, from a distance. This was the closeup, and it still looked like a fairy tale castle. It is above Neckarzimmern, on the Neckar River. Hornberg is owned by a branch of the von Gemmingen family, and is now a hotel. It was once owned by Götz von Berlichingen (1480-1562), the famous "knight with the iron hand." Hornberg has its own vineyards, some of which are in this photo. (It is March, so the vineyards are dormant.) One of the labels, with a painting of the castle, is posted in another set (Europe 2001) on Flickr. I do not know where I stood to take this photo. The Neckar River is in the foreground. |
