Burford Bridge, Abingdon, River Thames

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Burford Bridge, Abingdon, River Thames About opposite Abingdon Gaol is the southern tip of a small island in the Thames, which means that a crossing of the river above here needs two bridges (which effectively present to the motorist as a long single bridge). The western one is called Abingdon Bridge and the eastern is this one, Burford Bridge, which actually takes the navigation channel. There have been bridges here since 1416, but they have been much rebuilt, especially Burford Bridge (rebuilt 1929).
