Description Buras, Louisiana, more than 3 years after the town was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. This cafe and charitable church-run community center is one of the few businesses open in the town. I stopped here for a coffee and chat, asking what portion of the population seemed to be back. I was told that before Katrina there were some 5,000 in the area; the propriators declined to estimate what percentage were back other than saying "hardly any". (After driving around the rest of the town, that seemed accurate.) They say most of their business is from workers in the area temporarily to repair levees and demolish ruined buildings.
