Summary
[edit]DescriptionBuoy at Halfway Point to Hilbre Island - geograph.org.uk - 1718285.jpg |
English: Buoy at Halfway Point to Hilbre Island A view westwards from the RNLI buoy which is tethered halfway between Red Rocks and Hilbre Island. From here you begin to hear the selkies singing on the sandbanks to the west of Hilbre if the wind is favourable. This is a dangerous place if the tide is coming in. Although the terrain looks flat all the way to Hilbre there is a deep channel, known locally as The Gutter, you need to cross to get on to the island. This fills, first, fast and very deep as the tide begins to turn from low to high. |
