For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Halle, "Roter Turm", Roland-Statue ADN-ZB Lehmann 15.7.81 Der Roland von Halle, erstmals 1426 erwähnt, ist eine Ausnahmeerscheinung. Er ist nicht gerüstet, und er verkörpertete mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit auch keine Stadtrechte oder ihnen ähnliche Privilegien. Die Statue war ursprünglich Zeichen des Gerichtsherrn, des Burggrafen von Magdeburg. Errichet, damit während der Abwesenheit des Burggrafen das Schöffengericht weiter tagen konnte. Die Umdeutung dann vom Burggrafenbild zum Roland ist auf den Einfluß anderer Städte zurückzuführen, die sich schon früh "echte" Rolande geschaffen hatten. Das heutige 4 Meter hohe Standbild am Roten Turm wurde erst 1719 errichtet. - siehe auch E0914-202-2n, S0314-302n, W0801-11n, Z0715-1n - 5teilige Serie Roland-Figuren in der DDR.
