ADN-ZB Demme 29.11.80 Bez. Erfurt: Zur Luther-Ehrung 1983

Aus dem weiten Kreis deutscher Burgen ragt die 900jährige Wartburg bei Eisenach als krönendes Kleinod hervor. Sie verband sich im Verlaufe der Jahrhunderte mit bedeutenden Höhe- und Wendepunkten deutscher Kultur und Geschichte. So mußte sich auf der Wartburg vom 4. Mai 1521 bis zum 1. März 1522, verfolgt von Kirche und Kaiser, der Reformator Martin Luther als " Junker Jörg " verbergen. In den letzten Wochen seines Aufenthalts - knapp zehn - übersetzte er das neue Testament aus dem Griechischen ins Deutsche. Damit hat er nicht nur entscheidend die herausbildung der deutschen Schriftsprache gefördert, sondern zugleich, wenn auch ungewollt, nach Friedrich Engels der "plebeischen Bewegung ein mächtiges Werkzeug in die Hand gegeben".
