For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Illus-Köhler 8.Mai 1950-Tag der Befreiung. Aus Anlaß des 5.Jahrestages der Zerschlagung des deutschen Faschismus durch die sowjetische Armee beschloß die Regierung der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik, den 8.Mai zum gesetzlichen Feiertag zu erklären und ihn "Tag der Befreiung"zu nennen. Am 8.Mai 1950 fanden in den Berliner Betrieben Gedenkfeiern statt.Anschließend nahmen Betriebsdelegationen,zusammen mit Vertretern der Regierung,der Parteien und Massenorganisationen an einer Kundgebung am Ehrenmal für die Gefallenen der sowjetischen Armee in Berlin-Schönholz teil.UBz: Blick auf das sowjetische Ehrenmal in Schönholz.
