For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Wismar, Wendorf, Plattenbauten Zentralbild Link 13.7.1970 Reise nach Wismar Wismar -alte Hansestadt mit gotischen Kirchen, engen Gassen und anmutigen Giebelhäusern- heute mit Überseehafen, modernen Industrieanlagen und der zweitgrößten Werft der DDR. Es lohnt sich, diese typisch norddeutsche Stadt an der Ostsee zu bewundern und ihre Kontraste zu entdecken. In Wismar entstand nach dem 2.Weltkrieg die Mathias-Thesen-Werft, auf der moderne Fahrgastschiffe und Frachter bis zu 20000 Tonnen vom Stapel laufen. Da Wismar im 2. Weltkrieg schwer zerstört worden war, mußten für viele Tausende Facharbeiter Wohnungen geschaffen werden. So entstand Wendorf, wo heute 15000 Menschen wohnen, die zum Werftneubau nach Wismar kamen. Moderne Ladenstraßen, Krippen, Kindergärten, Schulen und Wohnbauten prägen das Gesicht dieses neuen Stadtteils, der zu den kinderreichsten Siedlungen der DDR zählt.
