For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.  Dresden, Ernst-Thälmann_Straße
Zentralbild Deutsche Demokratische Republik 12.11.1969 -schw. Die Bezirksstadt Dresden aus den Trümmern des Krieges neu erstanden Festlich, großzügig, hell und weit bietet die Ernst-Thälmann-Straße, benannt nach dem im Konzentrationslager Buchenwald ermordeten Führer der deutschen Arbeiterklasse, einen wesentlichen Einblick in das Baugeschehen, das in den letzten 20 Jahren in der Elbmetropole durchgeführt wurde. Sie erstreckt sich vom Pirnaischen Platz über den Altmarkt zum Postplatz (vorn im Bild). In den Jahren 1965-67 entstand hier der größte Gaststättenkomplex der DDR, die Großgaststätte "Am Zwinger" (links). Rechts bildet das Institutsgebäude, das auch das Haus des Buches der Elbestadt beherbergt, den zweiten Neubaukomplex am Postplatz.
