For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Suhl, Innenstadt Zentralbild Link ste 11.8.1967 Suhl: Südlichste Bezirkshauptstadt der DDR Durch ein großzügiges Bauprogramm ändert Suhl völlig sein Gesicht. Neben dem Wohnhochhaus (Bildmitte) und dem Hotel "tourist" (recht daneben) entsteht ein großes Centrum-Warenhaus. Die auffälligen ein- und zweistöckigen Häuser der Innenstadt werden modernen Wohn- und Geschäftsbauten weichen. Besonders bekannt ist Suhl durch die berühmten Jagd- und Sportwaffen des VEB Ernst-Thälmann-Werkes, durch die Mopeds vom VEB Simson und die elektrischen Haushaltsgeräte "Komet" vom VEB Elektrogerätewerk.
