Zentralbild Erfurt 4.10.1956 Wittig Neubau eines Kreiskrankenhauses in Saalfeld. Im November 1953 wurde mit dem Neubau des Kreiskrankenhauses in Saalfeld, welchem eine Poliklinik angeschlossen wird, begonnen. Bis 1960 wird das 25-Millionen-Objekt fertiggestellt sein. Bereits 1957 werden aus Wirtschaftsgebäude, die Poliklinik, ein Stations- und ein Operationsflügel arbeitsfähig sein. Im Hauptgebäude werden in den verschiedensten Abteilungen 600 Patienten Aufnahme finden können. In einer Kinderklinik stehen 80 Betten zur Verfügung. Ein Infektionshaus mit 60 Betten wird ebenfalls zu dem Krankenhauskomplex gehören. Die Patientenzimmer liegen alle ausnahmslos nach den Süden; Es werden nur Zwei-, Drei- und Vierbettzimmer gebaut. Ausser dem Hauptgebäude, dem Wirtschaftsgebäude, dem Infektionshaus und der Kinderklinik wird eine Pathologie errichtet. Die Architektur des Neubaues bestimmte Nationalpreisträger Professor Hopp sowie die Diplom-Architekten Wolfram und Hag. Die ärztliche Beratung hat das Ärztekollektiv der Krankenanstalten Saalfeld unter Leitung von Dr. Dr. Wahn übernommen. Bauausführender Betrieb ist der VEB Bauunion Gera.
