For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Zentralbild-Erfurt-Wittig Zi-Sch. 9.8.1956 Neuerermethoden im VEB Kalikombinat "Ernst Thälmann" in Merkers-Rhän. Die handelsüblichen Schutzschilder für die E-Schweißer sind mit einem hellen und einem darüber liegenden dunklen Glas ausgerüstet. Beide Gläser sind am Schutzschild starr befestigt. Der Nachteil dieser Ausführung liegt darin, dass beim Abschlagen der Schlacke infolge des dunklen Glases nichts zu sehen ist und deshalb diese Handhabung gewöhnlich ohne Schutzschild geschieht. Durch fliegende Schlackenteilchen sind dabei die Augen stark gefährdet. Kollege Erich Hugon machte den Vorschlag an den Schutzschildern durch einen gut ausgedachten Hebelgriff das dunkle Glas nach oben klappbar einzurichten, während das helle Glas zum Schutz der Augen fest im Schutzschild verbleibt. Der sich bereits gut bewährte Vorschlag dient der Sicherheit der E-Schweißer und schüztzt ihr Augenlicht. UBz.: Schutzschild mit aufgeklappten dunklen Glas.
