For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Bauarbeiter Zentralbild Neuer Tag 2 Motive 23.5.1955 Stellungsnahme zum Warschauer Vertrag. Held der Arbeit und Brigadier einer Komplexbrigade beim VEB Bau Frankfurt-Oder, Walter Schilf, sagte: "Als Bauarbeiter, der viele Bauten mit errichtet hat, kann ich nur begrüßen, daß die Friedensmächte in Warschau den "Vertrag über Freundschaft, Zusammenarbeit und gegenseitigen Beistand" abgeschlossen haben, der das mit schützen und verteidigen hilft, was wir uns in der DDR selbst schufen. Der Vertrag dient keinen aggressiven Zielen wie die Pariser Kriegsverträge, sondern er trägt dem Wunsch aller Völker nach Entspannung der internationalen Lage Rechnung. Zum anderen zeigt dieser Vertrag den Kriegstreibern die geballte Kraft des Friedenslagers, das nicht schutzlos dasteht und nicht gewillt ist, seinen friedlichen Aufbau stören zu lassen".
