For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Görlitz, Untermarkt, Peterskirche Zentralbild Ihlau Wjtk-Ho. 9 Motive 5.5.1954 Görlitz - Großstadt an der Oder-Neiße-Friedensgrenze Görlitz wird zu Recht die "Stadt der Türme" genannt. Es ist eine alte Stadt mit vielen historischen Bauten. Am 7. Mai 1954 wird diese Stadt das Etappenziel derVII.Internationalen Friedensfahrt sein. Der Schlagbaum an der gemeinsamen Grenze Volkspolens und der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik ist an diesem Tage hochgezogen. Die Fahrer des Friedens betreten in Görlitz den Boden des neuen Deutschlands, UBz: Blick auf die Türme der Peterskirche von den Bogengängen des Untermarktes aus.
