For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Berlin, Osthafenmühle, Getreide-Umtausch

Ein Gang durch die grösste Berliner Mühle, die Osthafenmühle, Mühlenstr. 8-10. Kolonnen von prallen Säcken wandern täglich von der in 3 Schichten arbeitenden Berliner Mühle zu den Vorratskammern in den Verwaltungsbezirken, um den Bedarf Berlins sicherzustellen. Die Osthafenmühle mahlt im Monat ca. 155.000 Ztr., Berlin verbraucht in 1 Monat etwa 600.000 Ztr. Mehl. Auch die Osthafenmühle hatte sehr unter den Kriegseinwirkungen zu leiden. Bei dem Zusammenbruch lag der 40.000 Ztr. fassende Speicher an den Kaimauern im Wasser, so dass kein Getreidekrahn mehr anlegen konnte. Der Wiederaufbau schreitet aber gut vorwärts. Getreide kann gegen entsprechenden Mahlschein in Mehl umgetauscht werden.
