For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.  Berlin, Gaststätte "Zur letzten Instanz"
ADN-ZB Deutsche Demokratische Republik 9.10.1985 "Zur letzten Instanz" - ältestes Lokal der DDR-Hauptstadt Rustikal ist hier alles: die massiven Holztische und -stühle genauso wie der gekachelte Fußboden, die gußeisernen Lampen und das Wandbord unter der Gaststubendecke mit den steinernen Kannen, Krügen und Humpen.Hier fühlen sich die Berliner und ihre Besucher heute so wohl wie vor mehr als 300 Jahren. 1621 wurde die Gaststätte gegenüber dem Gericht erstmals erwähnt als Branntweinstube, in der das einfache Volk bei Bier und Korn zusammenkam. Aber auch prominente Gäste haben in diesem Lokal so manch feucht-fröhliche Stunde verbracht. Zu ihnen gehörten Maxim Gorki, Otto Nagel, Alfred Döblin, Hans Fallada, Wilhelm Raabe, Charlie Chaplin, Henry Porten und - als Stammkunde - Heinrich Zille.
