For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Müritzhof, Fjällrinder ADN-ZB Bartocha 10.6.1982-Zum Beirag: Die "Heiligen" Kühe vom Spukloch - Ungewöhnliche Naturschutzhelfer an der Müritz. Vor über zehn Jahren wurden diese aus Skandinavien stammenden Fjällrinder im größten Naturschutzgebiert der DDR an der Mühritz angesiedelt, um eine Art "Naturschutzhelfer"-Funktion zu erfüllen. Indem sie den Rasen abweiden und somit kurz halten, bleiben die Lebensbediugngen für die seltenen Pflanzen und damit auch für eine ganze Reihe von Vögeln erhalten. Die hörnerlosen Rinder, die vor allem in Schweden vorkommen, erinnern in ihrem Aussehen stark, insbesondere mit ihrem weißen Fell, an die in Indien als heilig verehrten Kühe.
