First mystery witness today before the Special House Committee investigating Un-American activities was John Metcalfe, former Chicago reporter but now employee of the Committee as a special investigator. Joining the bund under the name of Hellmut Oberwinder, Metcalfe testified that the leader of the German-American bund, Fritz Kuhn, has a secret relationship with Nazi government so powerful he has taken credit for the recall of former German Ambassador Hans Luther and the shifting of German Consuls in this country who refused to so-operate with the bund movement, 8/12/38
