Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The photo shows a buff-tailed bumblebee that was subjected to electroplating. Electroplating is a method of molding non-ferrous metals by depositing them from a solution or melt under the action of an electric current. For the surface of the insect to conduct current, it was covered with a thin layer of graphite. A solution of CuSO4 was used as the electrolyte. During the passage of current through the solution, a layer of copper (Cu) was formed on the piece. In the picture, you can see that part of the abdomen and chest were not covered with metal due to the fact the black body parts were left uncovered with graphite, and accordingly, were not covered with a layer of copper. Today, electroplating is used in industry and decorations.
