SANTA CLARA VALLEY : OJAI VALLEY FIELDS. between 1,000 and 2,000 feet thick, of red and white sandstones whichseem to belong to the Sespe formation. Between the southerly beltof rusty beds, which are regarded as Vaqueros, and the Modelo shale,which constitutes Thompson Ridge, there is unquestionably a faultthe throw of which can hardly be less than 2,000 feet. The ThompsonRidge fracture is more directly in line with the San Cayetano fault tothe east than any of its associates and it maybe responsible for theexistence of both the Upper and Lower Ojai valleys. To the east itpasses immediately south of the wells of the Bard and adjacent oilcompanies. Between the Lower Ojai Valley and Santa Paula Canyonthe thickness of the red beds is greatly reduced, and to the south therusty beds may almost entirely disappear, for in the Silver Thread dis-trict the outcrop of these two strata is less than 300 feet thick.
