©/■ <^% A. % * ** <& , p >»< CHARACTER BUILDING is the deepest aim of the department of PublicSpeaking. The expression of the inner life isthe best way to discover just how much innerlife there is—the abundance or the poverty ofit, whence it flows, whither it tends, how use-ful it may become. The most intimate of the fine arts, the artmost closely related to the soul itself, is thatart which unites three arts: (1) the art of ex-pression, through the actions of the body, (2)the art of expression through the tones of thevoice, (3) the art of expression through th£words of the printed page. The separate mast-ery of the Body, the Voice and the Word, andthe fusion of these three in the melting pot ofImagination and Emotion constitute the gi-gantic problem of the artist in Oratory, Act-ing, Public Reading or Lecturing. The first eight courses in the list on pagesfour and five form progressive work during thefour years of college attendance. T
