Die Gausses uberzo- gen sich mit eineni engmaschigen Netze von Dolinen; indem immer inehr jugendliche Dolinen durch Erniedrigung der sic trennenden Rlicken und Aufschiittung (Fig. 3) ihrer Boden zu groBeren Formen zusaronienwuchsen. Lei gruppenweiser Anordnung zu Uvalen, bei reihenweiser Anordnung zu Talungen (Fig. 4) sich umformten, ent- standen die seichten und weitHachigen Wannenformen, welche heute * die Oberflache der Gausses auszeichnen. Die Oberflachengefalle die- ser Formen sind so gering, daG trotz der Reinheit des Kalkes das Karrenphanomen in den Gausses ganz unbekannt ist. Diese zu einem greisenhaften Stadium gediehene Entwicklung der oberflachlichen Karstformen bewirkte einerseits eine allsfemeine Erniedrii>:unD: und Einebnung der urspriinglichen Oberflache, andererseits die Ausbil- dung eines dichten. luckenlosen und undurchlassifjen Mantels von Verwitterungsschutt und Verwitterungsriickstanden. Dieser Verwitteruno'smantel ist von auCerordentlicher Bedeutung:
