M. le doyen Guillebert présente quelques considérations sur les araignées et leur manière de vivre. Après avoir esquissé les traits principaux des araignées en général, Fauteur passe à Texaroen de leurs mÅurs. Il trouve que « le nom allemand de l'araignée (Spinne) est on ne peut mieux approprié; car c'est comme fileuse qu'elle est sur- tout remarquable. La toile horizontale de celle qu'on appelle domestique est surtout intéressante. Ce filet res- semble beaucoup à celui que nos pêcheurs appellent le louj)^ ayant les mailles très-serrées dans la partie infé- rieure et très-là ches dans la partie supérieure; il est sur- monté d'un certain nombre de fils, flottant comme au hasard, qui sont comme un premier piège. L'insecte qui les rencontre dans son vol, s'y empêtre, et fait pour s'échapper des efforts qui d'ordinaire n'aboutissent qu'à le précipiter étourdi dans la nasse. Mais quelque re- marquable que soit cette toile, elle n'est rien encore en comparaison de celle de Varaignée des jardins (Aranea Dia- dema L.j, appelée par d'autres naturalistes araignée porte- croix. Sa toile n'est pas horizontale, comme celle de l'a- raignée domestique, mais jamais, ou presque jamais non plus tout-à -fait verticale : elle s'éloigne d'ordinaire (*) \ oir à la fin de ce volume. ^^c^ie^^ filBRARV
