The design of these repUcas is based in part on the recol-lections in the 1880s of the grandson of John Stevens, Dr.Francis B. Stevens, who was a frequent passenger on theoriginal locomotive in 1825 at the age of 11. These recollec-tions are contained in letters from Dr. Stevens to J. ElfrethWatkins, onetime curator of transportation and engineeringof the National Museum.
