IPPINE SEAS AND ADJACENT WATERS 159 to 10 more forward till over middle of eyes; 6 or 7 rows across cheek.Scales with 13 to 15 basal radiating striae; large scales sometimeswith many as 50 very weak, minute, short, apical denticles; circulivery fine. D. XI, 11, I, fourth spine 2% to 2% in head, second ray 2% to ^%;A. Ill, 8, I, second spine 1% to 2%, first ray 2% to 2^^; caudal 1)^ toly^, deeply forked; least depth of caudal peduncle 2% to 2%; ventralIK to IK; pectoral 2% to 2K in combined head and body to caudalbase. Dull olive-brown above, below pale to whitish and whole bodywith silvery and brassy reflections. Iris pale brownish, with reddishtints. Fins brown, membranes of spinous dorsal darker, also longi-tudinal band on soft dorsal, though only on membranes. Anal withmembranes of spinous fin and basal half of membranes of soft findeep brown. Caudal little deeper brown than body. Paired finsrather pale, with dusky blotch within origin and axil. Ventral withlittle dusky terminally.
