Holland bulb growers tell us that nowhereelse in America are made such extensive trialsof Hyacinths, Tulips, Narcissi, etc., as arecarried on by us annually at our trial grounds,both out of doors and in green houses. Theseexhaustive tests are necessary in order to knowall about the goods we sell, for, unlike ourseeds which are grown from pedigreed stock,carefully bred for generations, and developedwith great care by ourselves for years beforethey are offered to the public, all bulbs importedinto this country are practically strangers whenthey arrive on our shores. Instead of ourhaving known their parents and grandparentsfor so long that we can be reasonably sure asto the future conduct of the offspring, we, aswell as all other American Importers, have totake Holland bulbs upon faith. Our trialgrounds tests verify this faith. Moreover, theynot only remove from the foreign grower andexporter the temptation to substitute differentand inferior kinds which cannot be detecteduntil planted,bulbsseedsautumn1909dmfe
