[edit]DescriptionBulbine bulbosa flowerhead2 (8407221426).jpg | Native, cool season, perennial, tufted herb to 50cm tall. Leaves are linear, channelled, somewhat succulent and arise from the base of the plant. Flowerheads are racemes. Flowers have 6 yellow tepals to 12 mm long, each with a green, brown or red-brown central stripe underneath. Fruit are globular green capsules. Germinates or commences growth after autumn rain. Flowering is in spring and early summer. Widespread throughout NSW in many vegetation communities and soil types. Often occur in dense localised populations in moister areas and in good rainfall years. Low to moderate palatability; mostly grazed in winter if little else is available. Will continue to grow into summer if good moisture is available. Reputedly poisonous, but no there is conclusive evidence of this. |
