nsistent with home feeling today isshown by its use in American homes. The next infiuence we have to consider is theRomantic, which, as its name suggests, is emo-tional, free, and frets at restraint, and naturallyemploys an abundance of color. This Baroquemovement arose in Southern Europe and, likethe preceding one, swept over the continent andEngland. Impatience at the restrictions of theRenaissance doubtless aided the spreading ofthe Baroque influence. Rococo, Art Nouveauand the *Newer Decoration are all outburstsof the Romantic spirit. The Baroque retainedthe heaviness and impressiveness of the Re--naissance. Its influence continued in Franceuntil the time of Louis XIV, when classicismwas again introduced into furniture design, al-though in a manner called pompous. There are many minor periods of influenceon furniture design which would need muchexplanation and illustration, hence only thebroad and general history of design has beentouched upon.—Goorf Furniture Magazine. . ^^^^ ^
