English: CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan - Navy Lt. Joseph W. Diclaro II, from Beckley, W.Va., a medical entomologist who holds a doctorate in medical entomology and serves with Public Health and Preventive Medicine Detachment, Alpha Surgical Company, 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), shows Chief Petty Officer Heath W. Wallace, from Bolivar, Mo., an independent duty corpsman with Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division (Fwd.), how to properly assemble a mosquito trap during an occupational environmental health site assessment, June 29, 2011, at Forward Operating Base Zeebrugge, Afghanistan. During this deployment, Diclaro served as the only medical entomologist in Regional Command Southwest. Throughout his tour he conducted countless site assessments, and collected nearly 100,000 mosquitoes from different forward operating bases and combat outposts around the area of operation for further investigation, as well as provided medical information for troops deployed to the region. |
