The spine thus hy-perextended andpartially correctedis straightened fur-ther by bandagingthe trunk to thesides of the frame,one bandage pul-ling on the convexity of the dorsal curve and the other on theconvexity of the lumbar curve. The trunk is now encased inplaster. At the end of five days the jacket is removed andanother applied in the same way exercising more force. Severaljackets are thus rapidly worn and discarded, and then the patientis treated by exercises. Lovett claims that correction proceedsat a rapid pace by means of this preliminary use of jackets.He found that in the earlier jackets it was very easy to obtainan unbearable amount of corrective force, and that the
