Oh, is that so ? said the simple kuzuya. ThenI shall have the honour of buying this one if you willcondescend to sell it. He took out a purse from his girdle and put downfour hundred moii (a mon is a little coin with a hole in themiddle, and four hundred mon would be about forty centsin modern Japanese coin), and carried the kettle to hishouse in the city. The priest rubbed his rosary thankfully that nightand felt as it a mountain of anxiety had rolled off hisback. The kuzuya was very happy over his bargain, whichwas a splendid one, for he knew that he could sell thekettle for ten times what he had given for it. The morehe looked at the kettle the more delighted he was. I have not made such a good bargain for a longtime ! he said to himself. * And it was quite an honestone too, for I told the priest that he was parting with
