Title
Buckle spectacle with horns front
Description
English: An incomplete post-medieval cast copper-alloy buckle frame. This is a double loop buckle missing its pin. The bar is central, and the flattened frame has a pin rest notch at one end. There are two external 'horns' at each end of the bar, giving 'trefoil' sides. The outer edges are slightly angled. The buckle is in good condition, and appears to be made of brass. The buckle is 34 mm L x 30.4 mm W, and weighs 5.8 g.

Comparable buckles can be found illustrated in Whitehead (2003, 70; refs. 440-441) where they are dated to the period c. 1600-1720. Even more similar buckles can be found on this database, ref. SUSS-896F85, and published from Exeter (Allan 1984, 340; ref. 87). This latter is from a context dated c. 1690-1720 (ibid., 347).
