Title
Buckle plate
Description
English: Cast copper alloy plate, rectangular with two protruding lugs at one end, the other end rounded and possible truncated. Incised on its face is a 'swash N' motif made up of four conjoined petals with two rings at the points where they join. The lower part of the plate bears two columns of incised arcs set either side of a central line. On the back of the plate are two projecting pins, 3.8mm diameter x 3.8mm long. No trace of enamel inlay was found although its original presence is likely.

The 'swash N' is a motif with good Iron Age antecedents but its appearence on what appears ot be a buckle plate is unusual and this object is best seen as a Romano-Celtic product.
