Title
Buckle plate
Description
English:

A copper alloy buckle frame and plate dating from the medieval period. The frame is oval with an offset and recessed bar. There are faint grooves in the centre of the outer edge to act as a pin rest, and there is a casting seal on the inner edge of the loop which has not been trimmed off. The plate is rectangular and is made from sheet metal folded round the bar. The back plate is smaller than the front. The plate is recessed for the frame, and has a slot for the pin which is missing. There is a single rivet in the centre of the front plate, which is at the end of the back plate. This is copper alloy and is still in situ. The front plate is decorated with a border of a double row of chevrons, probably rouletted. The buckle has a smooth light green patina. A similar example is HAMP-83A6F5. The buckle probably dates from 1275 - 1400.
