Title
buckle plate
Description
English: A cast, openwork, copper alloy Medieval buckle plate. The body of the plate is rectangular and is decorated with a raised zoomorphic motif in the shape of a lion or leopard passant. It has eight circular openwork perforations; four small ones above and behind the animal, four more, slightly larger, in front and beneath. A short, flat section of metal extends from the centre of one of the short edges of the rectangle to a mounting point, where a short section of ferrous rivet remains in place. The corners of the plate are missing. This is probably a 13th century buckle plate like BH-11B096, SUSS-3E04E1, SUSS-FB8914 and SUSS-B4DBC4 with the rivet being part of the attachment to the strap, and the hinge missingfrom the other end.
