Title |
Buckle plate |

Description |
English: An unusual copper-alloy buckle plate most likely to be medieval in date. This buckle plate seems to be cast and is lozenge shaped with an opposing rectangular bar running down either side of the lozenge shape. It measures 28mm in width and 31mm in length. The plate has two parallel loops through which the bar of the frame would have been originally and a rectangular pin slot. There is a circular rivet hole in the centre of the plate and the front face is decorated with transverse grooves across the rectangular parts and diagonal grooves across the central lozenge shaped part. There are traces of corroded iron around the pin slot, presumably derived from a missing iron pin. |
