Title
Buckle from Wickenby
Description
English: Copper alloy

Buckle Frame, as identified by finder. Cast annular buckle with central bar; the frame is decorated with alternating raised and sunken panels around its inner and outer edges. Now bent outwardsA close parallel is dated by Whitehead (reference kindly supplied by the finder; 1996, page 46) to the 15th century. However, the traces of black lacquer noted by Whitehead and also appearing on this piece is a feature of Early Post-Medieval metalwork, so a slightly extended date-range is proposed. Suggested date: Late Medieval to Early Post-Medieval, 1400-1550.

Diameter: 47.5mm, Width (frame): 6.1mm, Thickness: 3.1mm, Weight: 18.25gms.
