Title |
buckle fragment |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy buckle fragment length 26mm, width 13mm, thickness 3mm, weight 1.81g. This would be a penannular buckle, but only one half remains. The frame has a flat rectangular cross-section that has an internal scroll. On the base of the scroll is a rectangular plate with the remains of a pierced lug which would have attached the buckle to a separate plate. This type of buckle dates to the early roman period with several similar examples held in the National Museum of Wales and date to the 1st-2nd century (Chapman, 2005, 116-117).
