Title |
Buckle Pin |
||
Description |
English: A nearly complete cast copper alloy buckle pin from a Medieval or Post Medieval buckle, c. 1250-1650 AD. The pin consists of a large oval suspension loop, followed by a rectangular transverse ridge decorated with incised hashmarks, ending in a square-sectioned tapering pin shaft. Less than half of the loop is missing due to an old break. The metal of the pin is of an even dark green patina. Unlike many examples of pins from this period which are manufactured hastily, this pin has been carefully cast and is very large in comparison. Cf. Egan and Pritchard 1991, Fig 32 for different pin terminology. |
