Summary
[edit]DescriptionBuckhurst Hill railway station - geograph.org.uk - 648768.jpg |
English: Buckhurst Hill railway station There has been a station at this location since 1856 when the Eastern Counties Railway opened their branch line to Loughton. Operation of the railway passed first to the Great Eastern Railway, then to the London & North Eastern Railway, before finally in 1947 the London Transport Passenger Board and London Underground's Central Line became the operators. This is the second station building, built in 1891-2. Early photographs show this building with three glass roofed canopies sticking out over the concourse and much higher chimneys, as high as the existing roof ridge and more. |
