Ancienne porte de Malines.Daprès une lithographie de Kreins, publiée par lArtiste. 52 V BRUXELLES A TRAVERS LES AGES. furent ainsi nommés parce quun sieur Wolf y avait son habitation. — Tout près decet endroit fut pratiquée la porte de Malines. Il ny a pas bien longtemps, on pouvaitvoir les restes de cette construction entre la maison de M. Van Volxem, rue delÉvêque, n° 32, et la maison de la rue des Augustins, n° 21.M. Van Volxem enpossédait les étages supérieurs; la partie inférieure appartenait à la maison de la ruedes Augustins, propriété de M. Crèvecœur, et louée en appartements à une clientèle

La tour était percée de meurtrières. La chronique populaire disait que jadiselle servait de prison, et quun escalier donnant du côté de la rue de lEvêqueservait à introduire les prisonniers. Le rez-de-chaussée et le premier étage donnaientdans la seconde cour de la maison de la rue des Augustins. Les étages étaient voûtéset servaient de cachots. Lancienne porte de Malines a disparu dans les démolitions,à lépoque des travaux de voùtement de la Senne. Autre détail intéressant : sur le plan figurent trois portes de Laeken (la PorteNoire, la petite Porte et la Porte définitive).
