Français : A la fin du 18ème siècle, les cartes françaises faisaient figurer Bruxelles, à l'époque une ville importante dans les Pays-Bas espagnols et la capitale du duché de Brabant. La carte montre les frontières de la ville et la rivière de la Senne. La situation de la ville près de la rivière en fit un important centre commercial pour les échanges entre la France et les États germaniques. En 1695, Bruxelles a été attaquée par l'armée de Louis XIV, et a subi de graves dommages. La ville demeurât en état de siège jusqu'à sa prise par les Français en 1746. Bruxelles devint la capitale de la Belgique après son indépendance en 1830 et, en 1958, a été proclamée siège de la Communauté Économique Européenne, précurseur de l'Union européenne d'aujourd'hui.
English: This late-18th century French map shows Brussels, at that time an important city in the Spanish Netherlands and the capital of the Duchy of Brabant. The map shows the borders of the city and the Senne River. The location of the city on the river made it an important commercial center for trade between France and the Germanic states. In 1695, Brussels was attacked by the army of Louis XIV, and suffered heavy damage. It remained under siege off and on until it was captured by the French in 1746. Brussels became the capital of Belgium when it became an independent country in 1830, and in 1958 was made the seat of the European Economic Community, the precursor to today’s European Union.

O mapa mostra as fronteiras da cidade e o rio Sena. A localização da cidade no rio fez dela um importante centro comercial para os negócios entre a França e os estados germânicos. Em 1695, Bruxelas foi atacada pelo exército de Luís XIV e sofreu grandes perdas. Permaneceu sitiada até que foi capturada pelos franceses em 1746. Bruxelas tornou-se a capital da Bélgica, quando se transformou em país independente em 1830, e em 1958 foi eleita sede da Comunidade Econômica Européia, precursora da atual União Européia.
